Melissa Church, Director/Choreographer, began Student Stage Theater Camps 10 years ago in an effort to combine the performing arts and creative writing for kids. She has a Master's in Education, and certifications in Elementary and Special Education. Melissa has been singing and dancing for as long as she can remember. She lives in Bella Vista with her husband, Tom, and their three dramatic children. She plans to change the world one camper at a time.
Tom Church, Musical Director/ Business Manager, has been a high school English teacher for the Lower Moreland School District for 12 years, and focuses on world literature and film. He has a Master's in Education and a J.D. He has always loved music and songwriting, and he plays piano, guitar, violin and drums. The leader of the band, Tom gives superhero-soul to everything from Les Mis to Aerosmith. As the camp director's right hand man, he saves the day in many ways!
Tara Jordan, Teacher/Design, is the MacGyver of the art world. Often seen covered in glitter and glue, Tara can create masks, pillows and set pieces from a paper clip and a will of steel. She has been working in childcare for the last three years and is currently pursuing a Master's in Social Work at Bryn Mawr College. Tara has always enjoyed working with children and currently interns at a local elementary school. In her free time she enjoys soccer, art, poetry, and other forms of creative expression.
Kate Brennan, Vocal Director, Accompanist & Idea-Generator, has been teaching and performing professionally for over a decade. Currently on faculty with Broadway.com in NY and St. Joseph's University in Philly, Kate is also Artistic Director of BCKSEET Productions where she produced two of her original musicals. Kate holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Virginia and is a member of Actor's Equity. She is currently teaching private voice lessons, becoming designated in Linklater Voicework and becoming a certificed Yogi in NYC. As a brainstormer for out-of-this world ideas, Kate's superpower is knowing everything (and nothing).
Student Stage Assistants, The Real Heroes
Human jungle gyms, warriors of snacktime and able to leap to the aid of small children in a single bound! Our campers adore these "older" friends. The assistants create learning and fun in many ways. Our assistants were once campers and can't wait to return year after year.
Lydie Miller, Writing Teacher/Administrative Assistant, is a 3rd grade teacher and the Extended Day Programs Director at St. Peter's School. Lydie has a BA in Journalism from Temple University, and aspires to author books of her own someday. She lends her fondness for creative writing to each Student Stage production. Lydie has the superhuman power to stay calm in the eye of the pre-production storm. She lives in Center City with her boyfriend Kyle, with whom she enjoys running, eating sushi and watching HGTV.
Tyler and Travis Goffredo, The Band, are South Philadelphia brothers who have been playing music all their lives. Tyler (on bass) is an accounting major and Travis (on drums) is a percussion performance major, both are students at Temple University. This dynamic identical duo packs a musical punch in the pit. This will be The Band's fourth year with Student Stage.
