Musical Theater Camp
The World Is My Stage: A Poetry-Infused Musical
July 13-31 (3 weeks) 9-4:30, Ages 7-14
Let's get musical and go global! Director, Melissa Church, is traveling through SE Asia this year, and discovering that the world is magnificent and non-western cultures have a lot to teach us! We will explore big ideas like PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE, UNIVERSAL LANGUAGES, and CULTURAL OPENNESS. We'll use performing arts to remind ourselves that we have a role to play in this world, our stage. Full-production performance on Fri, July 31st at a local theater. $985/3 weeks. $300 deposit to hold spot. Inquire about discounts and assistantships for teens.
Children are exposed to vocal warm-ups, vocal projection, harmony, choral, and solo singing, as well as ballet, modern, and hip-hop dance styles. Choreographers, voice teachers, and kids workshop together to develop each number. Music includes selections from Broadway, rock, pop, and folk, as well as new songs written for our show. Original and classic poetry compliment student-written scenes. Performers are accompanied by a live band.
Besides preparing for our show, we play outside, play improvisation games, do art projects, go on walking field trips, and just get silly with friends. After all, it is summer camp!
